This necklace features a natural Septarian Nodule fossil stone suspended from a sterling silver wire bail. The stone has a dark chocolate brown and black background with a creamy white matrix pattern. It hangs from a 20" stainless steel necklace with lobster claw closure. Unique and one-of-a-kind, it has an earthy, natural style that makes a bold statement. The style is unisex, so it can be worn by either a man or woman.
Septarian fossils were formed during the Cretaceous period - 50 to 70 million years ago. Decomposing sea life killed by volcanic eruptions had a chemical attraction to the sediment around them which formed mud balls. As the ocean receded, the balls were left to dry, crack and shrink which created the spectacular patterns inside.
MEASUREMENTS: The fossil measures approximately 1-1/4" in length and 2-1/4" at widest point. The total length of the necklace on the chain will hang for a total length of approx. 24".
